Security success doesn’t happen in a vacuum. That's why security conferences are vital—they give practitioners, decision-makers, and vendors a chance to get outside their day-to-day bubbles. Keeping up with in-person and virtual events gives you an inside look at the trends and technologies shaping our world, to better understand what your peers are doing, and which new attacks to look out for. So what are the top cybersecurity conferences 2022?

UNGA sideline Conference 2022 on Branding Bangladesh: NRB, UN Peace keeping & Humanitarian Approach Rohingyas

M S Shekil Chowdhury

Bangladesh represents an interesting case among the developing countries.
Despite its huge potentials and impressive success in many sectors in recent
decades, notwithstanding its numerous failures, its overall image in the outside
world remains largely negative. A section of the global media also tends to
downplay its achievements and overplay its negatives which also contribute to
its negative posturing. As a result, Bangladesh lacks the level of visibility in the
international arena which it rightfully deserves. Quite ironically, its name appears
in the international media more often with incidents associated with, among
others, floods, poverty, corruption, political instability and likely worst impact
of global warming. It is imperative that necessary steps are taken to aggressively
pursue “country branding” in a way which not only creates a positive image
about the country but also upholds its unique characteristics and attributes before
the international community and also to her own people. Bangladesh remains a proud contributor to UN peacekeeping operations. It is currently the top contributor of military and police personnel to UN peacekeeping missions, with almost 6,500 peacekeepers currently deployed in eight countries.

Development Dynamics of Remittances in Bangladesh

Development Dynamics of Remittances in Bangladesh

Md. Mahadee Hassan

Remittance inflows in the economy of Bangladesh are getting larger every passing year, matching with the increasing external
demand for its manpower. The ensuing development impacts of remittances, as a means of transfer of wealth, on socioeconomic
factors are increasingly viewed with importance. Remittances have helped improve the social and economic indicators like
nutrition, living condition and housing, education, health care, poverty reduction, social security, and investment activities of
the recipient households. The relative weight of remittances has also increased against most of the macroeconomic variables
alongside the contribution to GDP. Moreover, Bangladesh has been able to avoid any serious imbalances in BOP’s current
account, although it has persistent merchandize trade deficits. Not only that, but the export also tradable sector has thus far remained
unaffected from the Dutch Disease effects of remittances

Foreign Investment and Garments Sector of Bangladesh”

Foreign Investment and Garments Sector of Bangladesh”

Kazi Helal Ahmed

As the world’s second largest garment exporter, Bangladesh is expected to export over $50 billion worth of garments by 2021. One of the major factors that drives Bangladesh’s booming textile and garment industry is the growing foreign direct investment in the industry. The country’s cheap textile labour, preferential location in the heart of the Asia-Pacific region, and government support are some of the reasons why an increasing amount of investment has been made in Bangladesh’s textile and garment industry.

According to the statistics from Bangladesh Bank, Bangladesh’s textile and garment industry experienced a surge in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in the last fiscal year of 2016, with FDI totalling over $396 million, representing a 11% increase from the previous year’s $351.6 million. This surge marks a successful rebound of FDI from the economic slump in the country’s textile and garment industry after achieving a record high of FDI of $445.8 million in fiscal year of 2014.

With the total foreign investment in Bangladesh’s textile and garment industry in the last fiscal year, some $222.86 million was invested as reinvested earnings of the current companies that are already operating in the country. South Korea was the largest investor for Bangladesh’s textile and garment industry in fiscal year 2016 – several South Korean apparel companies invested over $111.6 million, representing over 32% of the total FDI in the sector, followed by Hong Kong’s $89.07 million. FDI from the United States stood at a modest $33.02 million.

Currently, Bangladesh is the world’s second largest garment exporter in the world after China. The South Asian country also enjoys tariff-free market access in the EU, Canada, Australia and other major textile and garments markets. An increasing number of international investors and famous fashion brands, such as Zara, H&M, Gap and Levi’s, are already manufacturing and importing clothes from Bangladesh.
